Exercises can be repurposed to fit the needs of the athlete. Use lighter loads to hone in technique, dial up speed, increase power; and most importantly (in my opinion), heighten your awareness of interacting with the weight.
Complexes are a great way to help achieve these benefits. Aside from being an easy way to sneak in some extra work volume, the snatch/clean can be deconstructed to help strengthen specific parts of the lift. Having trouble with your take off to the knees? Try a snatch/clean lift off before your lift. Having trouble controlling the bar path through the second pull? Try a snatch/clean deadlift/pull/high pull before your lift. Having trouble stabilizing through the catch? Try doing an extra overhead squat/front squat after your lift. Knowing your purpose will yield endless combinations creating a whole that’s greater than the sum of it’s parts.
