This is the point where athletes will fall apart by either rushing the transition (bar contacting low on the thigh) or chasing the bar with their hips (keeping the bar out front). Key points of performance are:

1. Bar racks across the traps

2. Feet are rotated out 5-20 degrees

3. Hips are open to maintain stability of the hips and trunk

4. Range of motion is prioritized with a verticalized torso

5. The body sits down to the limits of ankle, knee and hip flexion

Inaugural #FuBarbell IG video! Getting some work done on a Thursday afternoon: back squat heavy single at 116kg/255lbs.

If you couldn’t tell (check out where I get stuck), getting the hips open as you recover out of the hole stabilizes the torso allowing energy to continue driving up through to the bar.
