One of the things I’m very cautious of when having athletes perform lifts or pulls from the blocks is how they’re initiating the movement. If attention isn’t paid, we’ll see the athletes throw the shoulders and get behind the bar far too early. They might even make the lift, but this doesn’t really mimic how they would pull from the floor thus losing the transferability.
I expressed this concern to Ursula of WeightliftingWise and this cool little contraption was her solution. By balancing the bar in the middle of the blocks, it simulates a loaded barbell that’s mid lift forcing the athlete to have to be in a better position during take off helping to hedge against the less favorable shoulder throw we sometimes see with it’s sister variation on the blocks.
